I have been talking about cars. All types of cars, from sports cars to family cars. I planned a top German cars but I realized that would be the ideal time to discuss some of the most expensive cars auctioned in 2012. RM Auctions and Gooding managed the sales, and some lucky bastards took home these jewels on four wheels.

Averaging $10 million apiece these cars are probably collector’s dream, and some important pieces of automotive history. So here are, in all their splendor with many zeros, 5 car auctions top of the year. I do not know why people complained about crisis and poverty.

1955 Ferrari 410 S Berlinetta

Sold for $8,250,000 at RM Auctions Monterey in August 2012. Ultra-rare and expensive. From what I know it was a fierce battle and many numbers were thrown in the fight.I understand now why. 340-horsepower 4.9-liter V12 Superamerica engine (rather than horses, this engine should have lionpower), Scaglietti Berlinetta coachwork, Marylin Monroe resemblance, and a large collection value (given the fact it hadn’t hit the market for a decade). Judging by appearance, I envy the person who managed to buy that car. .

Wow, wow and again wow. I was and I still am in love with this car. It is simply gorgeous ! This car is hotter than California, sexier than Madonna, and more tempting than a pact with the devil. There is no detail that has not shout “hey sexy, you wann’a ride me?”. Well..yes i do !! Just 100 examples made between 1958 and 1963, Pininfarina-designed and Scaglietti-coachbuilt.

In its time and even now, California Spyder still remains a car that you can fall in love irrevocably. Sold for $8,580,000 it is one of just 100 pieces made between 1958 and 1963 (another rare kind) and and one of just 37 short-wheelbase versions with the coveted covered headlights.

1968 Ford GT40 Gulf/Mirage Coupe

Sold for $11,000,000 at RM Monterey in August 2012. Beast designed by Ford to beat the Ferrari horse. That car has a good pedigree and is the only american car arrived at the top. Expensive in the past, currently expensive and probably increasingly expensive from now on. An uncivilized beast cornered between two bohemian models (Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder and Ferrari 250 GT California LWB Competizione Spyder), even more attractive as it is one of the top bad guy.

Ferrari 250 GT California LWB Competizione Spyder

Sold for $11,275,000, Ferrari 250 GT California LWB Competizione Spyder is another extremely rare model from the italian manufacturer. Long wheelbase model built by Scaglietti, TR engine, alloy body and an extreme rarity (only nine models built for competitions). One of the most beautiful models, was for a long time over our heads in a poster from our room. This LWB Competizione Spyder, was part of the collection belonging to Sherman M. Wolf since 1979, and was last sold publicly in 1962.

1936 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special Roadster

Sold for $11,770,000, this Mercedes is king of kings. The pinnacle of luxury in 1936, 540K Special Roadster is the most expensive Mercedes of all time. It was so special in his youth that only 26 models were built. All the more now, when only three are known to exist. The kind of car that reminds me of Al Capone, jazz, champagne, petrol, cigars, ladies dressed in funny outfits with feathers and beads, smiling in silent movies. The kind of car for which I would sell a kidney. Where are the good old days? Where?
